An expedition to foreign lands and encounters with exotic creatures? The Book of Genesis? The expulsion from paradise? Scenes from fairy tales, fables or myths? What exactly Fabian Lehnert\'s print graphics and ink drawings represent remains mysterious and confusing. He develops a personal world of metaphors, which is rarely based on general symbolism or clear references from the history of culture, literature or art. Instead, the viewer has to search within themselves and may find fragments of biblical tales or memorable scenes and illustrations of literary classics from the 18th and 19th centuries in their own repertoire of memories. Lines are his sense of touch, and he uses them to create his creatures and their surroundings. And so it is entirely possible that humans grow fur or feathers as the images are created, and they mutate to hybrids.

In his latest work, Fabian Lehnert takes this world to curved surfaces. The figures now reside on spheres, with no beginning and no end. Based on antique globes and their construction, Lehnert creates an entirely new image language, creating scenes which appear to vanish into infinity, and thus building his own planetary system.

Fabian Lehnert, born in Leipzig in 1984, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig from 2005-2011. He completed his Master Class Programme in 2012 under Prof. Wolfgang Ellenrieder.
